Abstract:
Based on lightning monitoring and warning network, Doppler radar data and conventional meteorological observational data, the strong thunderstorm occurred in Xiangyang, Hubei province on 24 July 2011 is analyzed. Two strong storms of the thunderstorm process produced hail and thunderstorm gale (later heavy precipitation happened) respectively, and the emphasis is on the analysis of radar echoes and cloud-to-ground lightning characteristics during their lifetimes. The results show that the strong storm which produced hail is an isolated supercell, and the hail happened in the maturity stage of the supercell. The strong storm generating thunderstorm gale and heavy precipitation isa bow echo. The thunderstorm gale happened at the top of the echo, and the heavy precipitation echo is flaky and its moving speed is slow. The cloud-to-ground lighting develpment characteristics and lightning distributing locations of the two thunderstorms are different in each stage of life history.
