Analysis of characteristics and genesis of summer precipitation in Shandong province for nearly 30 years

  • In this paper, characteristics and genesis of summer precipitation in Shandong have been studied with data of conventional precipitation observations, height fields and wind fields at 12 stations in Shandong Province, and sea surface temperature data from 1979 to 2010.The results showed that summer precipitation within Shandong show overall similarity among difference sub-regions while there are some clear differences between north and south, and between east and west.It has clear interdecadal variation characteristics. The east Asian summer monsoon, the west Pacific subtropical high and the east Asian high-altitude westerly jet tend to cause the Shandong summer precipitation unanimously high. The Shandong summer precipitation is positively correlated with the equatorial western Pacific SST, but negatively correlated with the equatorial eastern Pacific SST during the same summer period
