The classification of lightning current intensity based on statistical distribution characteristics

  • We put forward the definition of lightning intensity based on new assessment criteria by combiningthelightning current amplitude and steepness withdetermined weights and unified dimension, according to their statistical characteristics in the monitoring data of ADTD systems in Fujian Province from 2007 to 2011.The mathematical model of lightning intensity hierarchy was establishedbythe weighted summation method, using the three percentages of 99%, 90% and 10% as the thresholds to separate the lightning intensity ranks as extremely strong, strong, general and weak.The results can directly provide a fairly good reference to business and related decision services including lightning warning and forecast, lightning disaster survey and lightning strike risk assessment.
