Reviews on retrieval methods for microphysical and dynamic parameters with cloud radar

  • Cloud radar is an important tool to observe and retrieve the microphysical and dynamic profiles in cloud and precipitation systems. The paper reviewed the cloud radar work modes, data quality control and merging algorithms, retrieval methods based on the relationship between reflectivity and raindrop terminal fall velocity, tracers of clear-air motion algorithm with single wavelength cloud radar, reflectivity density data ratio between dual wavelength cloud radar for vertical air motions and raindrop size distributions. The special characteristics of these methods were discussed. Coherent integration, incoherent integration and pulse compression techniques are used to improve radar sensitivity. This paper provided references for cloud radar observation and data analysis.
