Important heavy rain processes in China from April to October in 2011

  • Based on MICAPS daily precipitation data and operational synoptic chart,important heavy rain processes in China from April to October in 2011 were selected by comparing with the 30 a mean precipitation from 1981 to 2010 ,and a brief introduction on the synoptic system,rainfall occurrence time,rainfall area and accumulative amount of precipitation of these processes is presented.The statistical results indicate that there were 172 heavy-rain-day, 125 regional heavy rain and 38 important heavy rain processes in China from April to October in 2011. The middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River experienced severe drought in spring and then the frequent heavy rain caused flood in June.Drought occurred in the southwest China and the south of the Yangtze River in summer and early autumn.The west China had a severe flood season in autumn.Hainan,Guangdong and Guangxi provinces experienced severe heavy rain processes in the late September and middle October.
